UKBIC designated an EAL accredited learning centre in battery manufacturing

UKBIC Communications Team • February 17, 2026

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has been recognised as an accredited learning centre for battery manufacturing by EAL, the specialist skills partner and awarding organisation for engineering and manufacturing.

This accreditation builds on the recent EAL approval of UKBIC’s Introduction to Battery Manufacturing and designates UKBIC’s training delivery as meeting EAL’s high quality assurance and assessment standards.

UKBIC is now working with the awarding body to approve its full range of open access and tailored training programmes, which also include specialist modules covering electrode manufacture, cell assembly and other key stages of the battery production process.

The accreditation also enables UKBIC’s trainers to deliver EAL’s Level 2 qualification in battery manufacturing – a course co-created by UKBIC and EAL – and future battery manufacturing qualifications, including Level 3 which is now in development.

Jonty Deeley-Williamson, Head of Learning and Development, added: “This is fantastic news for us and for the wider battery industry. As an officially recognised EAL centre, we can now register learners for qualifications and benefit from EAL’s quality assurance, assessment processes and centre support services. This ensures training meets the highest possible standards and ensures that what we deliver is trusted by industry and aligned with employer expectations.”

Robert Stott, Senior Industry Manager – Engineering and Manufacturing at EAL, said:  “We’re delighted to welcome UKBIC as an EAL Centre. UKBIC sits at the heart of battery innovation in the UK, and formalising this partnership creates more opportunities for learners and employers to access world‑class training aligned to real industrial needs.

“UKBIC delivers training in a fully equipped, industrial‑grade, giga‑scale environment where candidates work directly with real, production‑scale battery manufacturing equipment – not classroom simulations or pilot rigs. The type of hands‑on experience offered is usually only available within commercial gigafactories.”

In 2025, UKBIC and EAL jointly developed and launched the Level 2 Award in Battery Manufacturing, a qualification designed with direct input from UKBIC experts to provide learners with practical, industry‑relevant experience.
