The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC), a soon to be completed battery production development facility near Coventry, has appointed Ian Whiting to the post of Commercial Director.

Whiting, who has significant experience in business, the automotive, commercial and defence sectors, has previously worked for brands including AMTE Power, Ricardo and QinetiQ. His most recent role was as a freelance battery technology consultant.

The new commercial Director will be responsible for business development, sales, marketing and procurement, and will also sit on UKBIC’s Executive Committee.

UKBIC is a £130 million 18,500 square metre pioneering facility, which provides the missing link between battery technology, which has proved promising at laboratory or prototype scale, and successful mass production

Ian Whiting, UKBIC Commercial Director, said: “I’m delighted to be joining UKBIC and helping to accelerate the introduction and adoption of electrified technology, an ambition which, once complete, will support the UK as a whole.”

Jeff Pratt, UKBIC’s Managing Director, added: “It’s fantastic to have Ian join us, helping us to play a key role in developing and stimulating the race to a greener future. Ian’s vast experience will be great addition to the UKBIC team.”

UKBIC is a key part of the Faraday Battery Challenge, a Government programme to fast track the development of cost-effective, high-performance, durable, safe, low-weight and recyclable batteries.
